Hey, it's Kristen!

I'm a native East Texan, Latina, mother, and activist. For the last six years, I have dedicated myself to building a better tomorrow for my neighbors and my children. I have worked on winning local, statewide, and federal races alike, and I am passionate about coalition building and rural organizing. I am the sitting President of Smith County Young Democrats, a founding member of the ETX Organizing Coalition,  an advisory board member for Indivisible Smith County, Precinct Chair for Precinct 30, and serve on the campaign committee for the Smith County Democratic Party.

As County Chair I will...

Work to Recruit and Elect Democrats

Our state leadership does an incredible job of fielding candidates for state and federal races, so it's our responsibility to recruit down ballot candidates for our local races, including city council, school board, justice of the peace, county commissioner, and the like. I spent the last year working to recruit local candidates and precinct chairs, hosting campaign recruitment events and workshops, and building a congressional campaign for a local congressional candidate.

Foster Local Civic Engagement

While state and federal issues are important, the most effective change we can enact is in our own backyard. Showing up and being heard when our elected officials are making city and county wide decisions, holding our elected officials accountable for their actions, and encouraging voting and pushing voter turnout are critical to make a difference for our neighbors right here in Smith County. Actively encouraging civic engagement is the key to getting past voter apathy.

Inspire Hope for Disenfranchised Voters

Smith County Democratic Party has to earn the trust of Democratic voters in our county. It is our responsibility to show up consistently, not just when we need a vote, and to continue showing up when it's hard to do so. I have held focus groups of disenfranchised rural organizers who have lost faith in our party for various reasons, and it's our responsibility to earn that back. We must be willing to work together to make our backyard a safer, more just place for all of us.
